FAQ

Yes, there is the MSU Women’s Club Soccer Green team which is our first team and the only team recognized by club sports and the intramural department.
The White team, or second team, is a club outside of intramural sports and the club sports program.
Additionally, the Green team is the only team able to earn its way to the Championship division of the National Tournament and compete for a National Championship.
Our conference is recognized by NIRSA, the national governing body for collegiate club sports while the league the White team plays in is not. The Green team can be earn it’s way into the National Championship bracket through conference play and the regional championship.
The White team can apply to be selected through a lottery system to play in the Open Division or second division of the tournament. This allows teams to compete for an Open Division Championship but not a National Championship.

The Green team holds two team practices a week for 90 minutes each. We typically train later in the evening to avoid classes, labs, office hours, work, and social commitments like other clubs or sororities.
We also have a one-hour technical training session each week.
It is important to note however that school comes first! Players are not “punished” for missing training due to academic work. Our hope is that you will prioritize the team after your academic work and as one of your top “social” or extracurricular activities.
We understand that our players all could have played for a varsity level team elsewhere but chose to come to MSU for all that MSU has to offer.

Most games will be played on Fridays and Sundays. Home games are played on campus at Spartan Greens and most of our away opponents are about an hour away.
Every other year, we may have an overnight doubleheader. We schedule this trip when the football team is away so that our players don’t have to miss a home football game!
We will play 10 regular season games followed by a Regional Championship tournament and then Nationals in mid-November.

With most of our division opponents in state, travel to most away games is about an hour.
Home and away matchups alternate each year so every other year we may need to travel for an overnight stay. Depending on who we get matched up with for our two crossover games, we will typically schedule a Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning game in a neutral location to minimize travel and costs.
Overnight trips are schedule to avoid home football games!

Yes, many of our players also have jobs in season. It all comes down to balance and communication.
-
Absolutely! Again, we want our players to be able to take full advantage of their college experience. We understand that if you wanted soccer to be a full-time job, you’d be playing at the varsity level somewhere.
Each year we have several players who are members of sororities, freshmen who rush, and even some who hold executive positions within their sororities.
